The Village of Philo Board of Trustees is doing what they can to help keep our community and residents safe during this coronavirus crisis. We held our Public Hearing; Planning Commission Meeting and Monthly Board meeting on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 via Zoom. We are trying to adhere to our normal protocols as much as possible while keeping our social distancing orders in mind. Meeting postings are still being made in a timely manner at the Post Office and on our web site.
At the meeting the Board decided, due to the continuing COVID crisis, the spring Village Clean Up and Electronics Recycling Day will be cancelled. At this time, the Village still plans to hold the Fall Clean-up Day. We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes. Please continue to help keep the community beautiful.
Also discussed at the meeting was the Village burning ordinance. The Board was unanimous in voting against suspension of the burning of leaves, limbs and brush. We understand there are people with health issues that this affects more than others and we are sorry they have to take extra precautions to protect themselves. The truth of the matter is that through the years I receive very few calls against burning and the majority is in favor of keeping this option for caring for their yards. Please read the ordinance posted on the web site, it does specify what can and cannot be burned and when burning can happen. The big thing is, just be courteous of other people. Make sure you are not burning damp or wet leaves, sticks and brush. This will help keep the smoke down and will not burn as long.
This is a tough time we are all going through right now and we just need to work together to stay healthy and come out wiser and better protected in the future.
Thank you to everyone who is staying at home and also to those that are helping take care of our local businesses when you do leave the house.
Larry Franks, Village President
